Damien's Time Capsule

Today Damien, you are 17 years and 5 days old- it was your birthday last Saturday!!

Good grief… you’re 17… wow…

Ahem.

Right.

Back to now.

At this exact moment, you are at J’s house. You’re probably skateboarding, or playing PS2, or listening to music and smoking up a nicotine storm in J’s converted-garage-bedroom.

These days, you consider yourself a metal-head, so you like to wear all black… or anything with skulls on… or t-shirts with funny slogans like “tell your girlfriend I said thanks”. I think it’s pretty cool as I have always been a metal-head myself, although we were called “head bangers” when I was in high school! Your taste in metal is just a lot heavier than mine.

You’re not big on watching a lot of TV, you prefer movies or PS2, but when you do watch you LOVE anime…! The Matrix trilogy you have seen so many times I have truly lost count, and the Jurassic Park movies are also way up there on your list of favourites. When you do watch TV, you like “Heroes”, “X-Files”, “Freaky Links”, “The Outer Limits” and “Survivor”.

Your current hobbies… apart from your girlfriend… consist of Warhammer, skateboarding, PS2 and drawing, but Warhammer rules! You spend hours painting and building your models. And of course there’s MXit. Does that count as a hobby I wonder? With the amount of time you spend on your phone chatting to friends I am sure it must be a hobby!

Something you say a lot is “cool”. In a monotone. This is your answer for everything! If you’re really excited I may hear you say “cool!” with a smile. And you giggle like a lunatic when you’re on MXit.

Your favorite food at this age is whatever is in the fridge… LOL! You love Two-Minute-Noodles, Coke, FrootLoops, Vienna sausages, roast chicken, Hawaiian pizza, McDonalds Big Mac and KFC. You love making your own “grilled” cheese sandwiches in the microwave and you make flapjacks yourself too- there’s always batter in the fridge!

I love you to death my precious boy, but I really wish you would stop talking to me like you own me...

I think you're a great kid because you so often think of others… like when we’re walking around a shopping mall you will point out things that you know other people will like, and you go out of your way to humour your mom when it comes to things like hunting Easter eggs or writing a letter to Santa! And you know me so well, when shopping for a gift for me you know exactly what I will like and won’t like.

I love when you hug me for no apparent reason, and then hold on for a while, and when you kiss me goodbye no matter where we are or who’s watching!

I tried to think of something I’m wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day… but my wardrobe has always been a little strange so I have reduced you to giggles a few times with feather boas, false eyelashes, hats and shoes.

I'm amazed that you have never broken a bone in your body! As hyper as you can be, and the number of times you’ve fallen off of or out of something and climbing buildings and such, you’ve never broken anything. There’ve been lots of stitches and x-rays, many scars, and two stomach pumps, but never a broken bone!

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with… stopping smoking! You keep trying, and I wish I could make it easier for you.

Timeless Memories

Today you are 3 days away from being 5 months.

This is what you looked like when you were born:

At this exact moment, you are sleeping across my knees, drooling down my leg. 5 seconds ago you were wide awake, singing and enjoying being bounced up and down.

These days, you like to wear, or I like you to wear: an assortment of baby gro's. I particularly like your camo one. You match your dad when you wear this.

Your favorite t.v. show(s) or movie is this: The kids programming on BBC Prime - Balamory, Big Cook Little Cook, The Roly Mo Sho, Tweenies and also anything on The Style Network (you gonna have style, boy)

You love to do this: bounce up and down, chew peoples' fingers, drool, suck your toys, stand up and bounce.

You say this a lot: goo. bah. dah. you even said 'oink' once.

Your favorite food these days: Isomil1. (still only drinking your bottle)

This is your favorite toy: Enrico The Turd

I love you to death, but I really wish you would stop doing this: crying. I dont know what it means....I have to guess...and its a little frustrating.

You're a great kid because of this: you look really cute when you sleep. I think that's when I love you the most.

I'm amazed that you do this: already hold your own bottle, and put your own dummy back in your mouth, and are starting to crawl. And you're not even 5 months yet!

I love when you do this: smile at me when you wake up. Laugh uncontrollably when I tickle you. Splash around in the bath.

Something I’m wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day (or already does):gold slip on shoes.

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:putting your dummy back in your mouth the right way up. You're also battling with crawling, sometimes it looks like you're swimming on land...

The amazingness of Boobah!

**As copied from my blog**

On Monday, I did my Bad Mommy Homework, and one of the questions I had to answer was "Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:". This was my answer "Walking! I wish you would just walk now so you can go where you want to, when you want to, for however long you want to. I can't stand the frustration you have to endure because you can't manage on your own yet.". Then, not even TWO days later, my wish came true!!! Last night, at approximately 19:00 – 19:30, Boobah decides that this whole business of clinging in to the couches and/or tables whilst walking around the room is not for him, so he just… let go. Just like that! AND HE WALKED!!! BY HIMSELF! FOR THE FIRST TIME! And you know how all those books say that generally baby persons give one or two steps and then either sits down or tumbles over? Not my kid! He gave the 6 steps from The Dad to me, hugged me and then promptly turned around and walked back to The Dad. Just sommer so… I am currently the proudest mommy in the world. My kid is amazing! Also remember, this is a child who never crawled, as he refused to lie on his stomach for longer than 2 seconds at a time.

Boobah's age when this happened: 2 days shy of his 11 month Monthday!!!

I am posting videos of this happy event as soon as I convert them properly…

Penace for ignoring BOBM

I think my negligence has finally caught up with me.

I am sick and The Pickle isn't.

This means there is a reversal of power in my home.

*me sneezing and coughing and looking horrid*

"Morning my Pickle," I mumble making a beeline for the coffee.

"Morning Mammo!" she chirrups happily. "Riaan and me are going to have pinano lessons today!!"[could someone shoot her now].

"Oh that is good my Pickle, I'll make sure Lebo picks you up OK?"

"Thanks Mammo! Are you sick Mammo? Shame!" [she doesn't sound at all sorry]

*slobbery kiss from Pickle*

Then the sting

"Euuww Mammo, your germs!!" and she skips off to terrorize someone else!

About bloody time I do some homework . . .

Today you are 7 years, 3 months and 1 day old.

At this exact moment, you are at home playing (or annoying) granny.

These days, you like to wear anything comfy. You like the occasional dress, but prefer shorts.

Your favorite t.v. shows and movies are High School Musical, Hannah Montana, The suite life of Zach and Cody.

You love to do crafts, write stories and plan birthday parties for your stuffed animals.

You say many things, some of them are a little out there. I love nothing more than our Saturday and Sunday morning, in bed, chat-a-bouts!

Your favorite food differs from day to day. You are the fussiest eater ever!

Your favorite character from a show or movie is difficult to tell. Hannah Montana maybe? I get the feeling that the entertainment of the whole show is what you dig :-)

This is your favorite toy: Pollys and Barbies.

I love you to death, but I really wish you would stop bawling when you don't get your own way and the new sulking thing is driving me crazy!

You're a great kid because of so many things. I am constantly amazed at you. I am always proud of you. You totally rock kiddo.

I'm amazed that you read so well, have such an affinity for numbers (mamma's girl) and love so strongly.

I love it when you curl yourself up on my lap, or fall asleep on my shoulder. You're getting older and these moments are rarer and rarer.

Something I’m wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day (or already does) is my bikini :-)

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with is your own impatience with yourself. You are not superwoman baby. It takes time to master anything. Give yourself a break every now and then.

This is an article from a magazine or newspaper describing an event that happened today or around this time:

"Schoolchildren in Kliptown, Soweto have become the first in South Africa to benefit from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) campaign, reports the Mail and Guardian.
One hundred children from the Kliptown Youth Programme have joined the community of 250 000 children from developing countries across the world in being owners of the worlds cheapest and child-friendliest laptops.
The durbale XO Laptops weigh only 1.3 kilograms and cost US$100 (R780) to manufacture. OLPC founder Nicholas Negoponte, aims to address the lack of educational resources and the consequent impact on the learning potential of children living in developing countries, by distributing the laptops around the world."

You’re almost 21!!

Today you are just over a month away from your FIRST birthday.

At this exact moment, you are
at your grandma's place. She looks after you during the day. You're probably having a sleep now. Great, seeing as you didn't sleep all that much last night. Today I am knackered!!

These days, I still get to dress you. I like dressing you in
Camo clothes. You are and will always be Mommy's Little Soldier. I also get to do your hair. It's always in a Mohawk style. Luckily, you have such straight hair, it just does what I want it too. I will be taking you for a haircut soon though – short back and sides.

Your favorite t.v. show(s) or movie is this:
7de Laan, Coolcatz, Barney – The stupid Dinosaur and I let you watch Baby Einstein – Da Vinci a lot. You love the handpuppets.

You love to do this:
Hold my hand and walk all over the place (you can't walk by yourself yet and you absolutely refuse to crawl), help me with the washing, shoving anything and everything in your mouth and you just lurve getting your own way…

You say this a lot:
Ka – for look, Ghia – Giraffe, Mamma, Oupa, Pappa and Nee nee nee – Meaning No No No

Your favorite food these days:
I feed you a lot of yoghurt, as some days that is the only thing you will eat and you don't mind bananas either. And you just have to have food off other people's plates, regardless of whether you actually like it or not.

Your favorite character from a show or movie is this:
Like I've said, you like Barney, but you hate sleeping next to him. You don't really care for characters, but can't get enough of your digger trucks.

This is your favorite toy:
Your digger trucks, your Xylophone, Gapie-Apie, and Sheep. What do all of these have in common? They are all yellow.

I love you to death, but I really wish you would stop doing this:
I hate when you scream your head off when you don't get your way. I am your mom, I've been around much longer than you, I'm bigger than you, and if I say No, IT'S NO! Deal with it!!!

You're a great kid because of this:
You always
wake up with a smile. You give me lots of hugs and kisses. Even though I don't look after you during the day, and you spend most of your time with your grandma, you still know that I am your mother. And you are happy to see me when I come to pick you up!

I'm amazed that you do this:
You develop at a rate which is far too advanced for a little baby person! You can stack building blocks on top of each other, building cuppy towers and you understand when I talk to you. I taught you about Baby Tarzan on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, you were doing it by yourself. You are an amazing little being!

I love when you do this:
You kiss me hallo, and you kiss me goodbye. You don't do this with anyone else!

Something I'm wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day:
Oneday, when you're big and grown up, you'll probably laugh at all the clothes I've ever worn. I have a unique style, that not many people can pull off, and if you don't know me, you'll probably think I'm weird…

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:
Walking! I wish you would just walk now so you can go where you want to, when you want to, for however long you want to. I can't stand the frustration you have to endure because you can't manage on your own yet.

This is an article from a magazine or newspaper describing an event that happened today or around this time:
From News24.com:

your hair smells of oranges

your hair smells like oranges this evening.
you put your little arms around me and say
'i love you mommy. i sorry i cried when you say no'

i look at you and kiss your head
i mentally jawdrop a little at your sentence construction
we cuddle up on the couch
and watch the most annoying dvd of all time

(kidsongs. parents, just don't buy them. please)

and you love it.
the dumblooking children who you are clearly the bigger star out of
when compared
fascinate you
with their silly songs
and little antics

i don't care that it's giving me a headache.
i don't care that i'm lying in an uncomfortable position.
you don't care that i am tired and haven't showered yet.

all you care about is being on the couch with me.
and all i care about is me being on the couch with you.

and there i am
smelling your gorgeous hair
with your head snuggled under my chin.

when tertia told us about mommy love
i knew it could not be defined.
but this is as close as i can do.

nothing in the world matters
not bills
not deadlines
not how i look
not how i feel
not what i did or did not do today
not how i smiled or grimaced
not that i liked or disliked
not that i could or could not figure something out
not what i did or did not achieve today.

everything in the world that matters
is snuggled under my chin
smelling of oranges.

good night my cam.
