The amazingness of Boobah!

**As copied from my blog**

On Monday, I did my Bad Mommy Homework, and one of the questions I had to answer was "Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:". This was my answer "Walking! I wish you would just walk now so you can go where you want to, when you want to, for however long you want to. I can't stand the frustration you have to endure because you can't manage on your own yet.". Then, not even TWO days later, my wish came true!!! Last night, at approximately 19:00 – 19:30, Boobah decides that this whole business of clinging in to the couches and/or tables whilst walking around the room is not for him, so he just… let go. Just like that! AND HE WALKED!!! BY HIMSELF! FOR THE FIRST TIME! And you know how all those books say that generally baby persons give one or two steps and then either sits down or tumbles over? Not my kid! He gave the 6 steps from The Dad to me, hugged me and then promptly turned around and walked back to The Dad. Just sommer so… I am currently the proudest mommy in the world. My kid is amazing! Also remember, this is a child who never crawled, as he refused to lie on his stomach for longer than 2 seconds at a time.

Boobah's age when this happened: 2 days shy of his 11 month Monthday!!!

I am posting videos of this happy event as soon as I convert them properly…

You’re almost 21!!

Today you are just over a month away from your FIRST birthday.

At this exact moment, you are
at your grandma's place. She looks after you during the day. You're probably having a sleep now. Great, seeing as you didn't sleep all that much last night. Today I am knackered!!

These days, I still get to dress you. I like dressing you in
Camo clothes. You are and will always be Mommy's Little Soldier. I also get to do your hair. It's always in a Mohawk style. Luckily, you have such straight hair, it just does what I want it too. I will be taking you for a haircut soon though – short back and sides.

Your favorite t.v. show(s) or movie is this:
7de Laan, Coolcatz, Barney – The stupid Dinosaur and I let you watch Baby Einstein – Da Vinci a lot. You love the handpuppets.

You love to do this:
Hold my hand and walk all over the place (you can't walk by yourself yet and you absolutely refuse to crawl), help me with the washing, shoving anything and everything in your mouth and you just lurve getting your own way…

You say this a lot:
Ka – for look, Ghia – Giraffe, Mamma, Oupa, Pappa and Nee nee nee – Meaning No No No

Your favorite food these days:
I feed you a lot of yoghurt, as some days that is the only thing you will eat and you don't mind bananas either. And you just have to have food off other people's plates, regardless of whether you actually like it or not.

Your favorite character from a show or movie is this:
Like I've said, you like Barney, but you hate sleeping next to him. You don't really care for characters, but can't get enough of your digger trucks.

This is your favorite toy:
Your digger trucks, your Xylophone, Gapie-Apie, and Sheep. What do all of these have in common? They are all yellow.

I love you to death, but I really wish you would stop doing this:
I hate when you scream your head off when you don't get your way. I am your mom, I've been around much longer than you, I'm bigger than you, and if I say No, IT'S NO! Deal with it!!!

You're a great kid because of this:
You always
wake up with a smile. You give me lots of hugs and kisses. Even though I don't look after you during the day, and you spend most of your time with your grandma, you still know that I am your mother. And you are happy to see me when I come to pick you up!

I'm amazed that you do this:
You develop at a rate which is far too advanced for a little baby person! You can stack building blocks on top of each other, building cuppy towers and you understand when I talk to you. I taught you about Baby Tarzan on Wednesday, and by Thursday morning, you were doing it by yourself. You are an amazing little being!

I love when you do this:
You kiss me hallo, and you kiss me goodbye. You don't do this with anyone else!

Something I'm wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day:
Oneday, when you're big and grown up, you'll probably laugh at all the clothes I've ever worn. I have a unique style, that not many people can pull off, and if you don't know me, you'll probably think I'm weird…

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:
Walking! I wish you would just walk now so you can go where you want to, when you want to, for however long you want to. I can't stand the frustration you have to endure because you can't manage on your own yet.

Homework Time!!

Right, Bad Mommies, it's my turn to set the homework. Sorry it's so late. I could give a whole list of excuses, but you won't believe me anyhoo…

Okay, for this week, I want everyone to do a Photo Project. I know all of you, myself included, are Happy Snappers and that is why I think we need to do something like this.

So for topics, please choose one of these*:

  • Place your emotions and feelings into a picture. How does your child(ren) make you feel? What do they mean to you? For example, Happiness = A photo of an ice-cream or a chocolate (cause we all know how happy that makes us). Be as creative as you want!

OR

  • Take photos of objects/shapes to spell out the name of your child. It could be his real name, or the nickname we all know him by (like Damien for Angel and Boobah for me). For example, I could take a photo of a ball, to represent the B in Boobah and a photo of a wheel or round object for the O.

For mommies who have don't have a camera, Google Image Search** has just become your new best friend. And seeing though I've only put up the homework midweek, deadline for this project would be end of next week. Bear in mind that on Monday a new assignment will be set as well, so the two will run parallel with each other.

I hope you all have fun and that this really gets those creative juices flowing!

*Minimum of 3 pictures required

One day, when you’re all grown up

Boobah,

Happy Birthday. You are now 18, a man, an adult (according to the Childrens' Rights Laws). You are now old enough to sign your own cheques, your own contracts and make your own decisions.

I love you. Never forget that. That said, there are some things I would like to tell you:

  • Your girlfriend hates me. That's fine, because I'm not all that keen on her either. She's snobby, rude, un-classed, and thinks too much of herself. She's pretty, I'll give you that, but looks fade over time, son. Just remember that. If this is just a fling, that's great! When you do start thinking of settling down, find yourself a nice girl, with a bubbly personality and a warm heart. Someone who will love you for you, and not because you are successful or come from a rich family.
  • Use a condom.
  • Get a financial advisor ASAP. If you are anything like me when it comes to money, you will need this!
  • Try and save some money, please.
  • Go out, have fun, dance through the night, but just keep in contact with your sense of responsibility. If you are going to drink alcohol, please drink water or plain coke in between each alcoholic beverage. If you're going to drive, please stop drinking at least 3 hours before you have to get behind the wheel. It won't prevent you from being drunk, but it will help that your head doesn't feel too woozy and that traffic lights won't swim before your eyes.
  • If you're going to do drugs (and I hope you never get the urge), at least tell me what you're using, so that in the event of something going horribly wrong, I can get you the correct treatment ASAP!

Okay, end of the seriousness. Your dad and I have bought you a car for your birthday. If you run downstairs, the keys are in the prettily wrapped box on the foyer table. All those times you thought I wasn't listening to you, well surprise, a mom can do more than one thing at the same time. I did actually hear you going on and on about that car that you like so much. It took some considerable arm-twisting on your dad's part, but I did it. Hope you enjoy the car, and that it turns out to be as much fun as you hoped for.

Again, I love you. Always remember that. You have been my most precious gift ever. I couldn't have asked for a better child. I hope you know that.

With all my love,

Your Mom

XXX

PS: I found those books you thought you hid so well. Hiding stuff underneath your mattress = Bad Idea. They kind of popped out when I changed your bedding. Sorry honey...

Before Boobah came along...

...I slept whenever I felt like it. I had afternoon naps. I went to bed late and I woke up even later. Now I don't have that luxury anymore.

...I was a very selfish person. My whole world only revolved around me. Now, I'm still a selfish person, my world just revolves around Boobah.

...Little things used to bother me. Now, I couldn't care less about the little things.

...I never planned ahead. Now, if we go anywhere for any reason, I have something packed in for any possibility.

...I was a materialistic girl. Now, I still spend money on stuff, but it just happens to be stuff for Boobah.

...I hated Barney. I still hate Barney, but I've learned to tolerate him.

...Responsibility meant nothing to me.

...I enjoyed the farting competitions we had as a family. Now, I can't wait till my boy is old enough so I can have them with him.

...I was a real tomboy. Definitely not a girlie-girl. Now, I have turned into glam mommy (Okay, okay, only sometimes)

...I liked other peoples kids, because I could give them back. Now I have my own, and I can give him to my mom.

...I hated sloppy kisses. Now, they're the best kind, because they are only reserved for me! (The sloppy ones, I mean)

Boobah's Moms' Answers to Angels' Homework Questions

1. Do you remember a particular incident or moment from your own childhood that has influenced the way you raise your offspring?

I am quite happy with the way I was brought up, so there's not much I want to change. My mom never just said "No" or "Because I said so". She always gave us a reason for why we weren't allowed to do something. So I'd like to keep that.

One thing I will try change however is the way my mom used to tell us off when we did something wrong. She would fight, fight, fight and then walk away. Now, you'd think she was done, right? Nooo, after a while she'd come back and fight some more cos she had just remembered something else to tell us off about.

2. Have you started some kind of savings plan or investment thingy for when your kidlet(s) wants to go to college or varsity?

Of course, as this is something any good mom would do. Except, I am a Bad Mom, and I used up the money I had saved so far in Boobah's savings account to buy groceries one month when we didn't have money. We didn't have money because being the Bad Mom that I am , I spent it all on Christmas presents without thinking nor planning ahead...

3. Do you think it’s possible to let go of “mommy guilt”, to forgive yourself and move on, to do better?

Besides picking Boobah up by the ankles and swinging him upside down - which makes him laugh like a maniac - I haven't had enough time with him to wish I'd done something different. Maybe when he's older and I'm wiser I can revisit this question and answer it better then.

4. How long after giving birth did you want to have sex?

Sex? Sex! Why would I want to have sex again? Me, who actually used to be a real wild child has since the birth of my babyperson, turned into a complete abstainor as far as is possible. The Dad, on the other hand would want to Do it 3 times a day, every day if he had the chance... I just don't have the drive anymore. It hurts, for some reason, and it's just not fun.

I don't get what the big deal is...

Bad Mommies... Meet Boobah!

Hi Everyone!

I'm hapiness to introduce my little Boobah to all of you. As I've been rquested and seen all of you do too, here is my introduction bit:

1. Post a picture of your kid(s).

I have only one baby-person - Boobah. He is the love of my life, (even though he screamed his head off and didn't wanne play by himself from 4:30 am this morning) and the reason I breathe everyday.

2. Tell us all 3 things we wouldn't know about you.

a. I hate Barney!

b. I am a top-notch pool player. Especially after a drink or two. I don't know what it is about Vodka flowing through my veins, but it just makes me a better player.

c. I procrastinate - ALOT!

3. Tell us some things we wouldn't know about your kid(s).

a. My boy loves Barney!

b. He's got his mom's hands.

c. Boobah has a very high pain threshold.

4. What quote/saying best describes the way you feel about being a mommy?

I am very very bad at remembering anything cool quotey. It's bad because now I can't think of a witty saying that will make everyone go "Hmm, she's a clever one..."

5. Who's your Famous Mommy Role Model (haha, like there actually are any good celebrity mommies)

I happen to like Gwen Stefani alot. She's got good style, and she treats her kid like a normal one.

6. If you could have one wish granted for your kid(s), what would it be?

To be happy, and to set acomplishable goals. And to learn how to live and convert dissapointments into something positive. Oops, that's more than one. But how do you setlle on just one wish for a little baby-person?
