Restless Moments

Since I haven't posted here in like - oh - I don't know - AGES!!! And have no idea what's going on, I thought I'd at least confess some recent bad mommy moments. That's right ladies - not just one - many.

1. Scolding my 2 year old daughter for eating dog food and then realizing she was - hungry.

2. Feeling completely exhausted and in need of sleep. Then feeling a sudden burst of energy once SHE falls asleep.

3. Taking full advantage of the fact that my daughter likes to get things for me now - like the remote control.

4. Scolding my daughter for eating dog food. Then finally giving up after doing it over and over and over again thinking "at least she's eating SOMEthing! (she went through a stage where she wasn't eating much - probably cuz she was eating dog food!)... and it's healthy!"

5. Forgetting to "brush" her tiny little teeth. How do you do it anyway?? It's impossible!

Thanks for listening and thanks for keeping me around!

Bottled Up and Ready for Take Off!

Today you are: 19 1/2 months (a year and 7 1/2 months) old.

At this exact moment, you are: SLEEPING! Woohoo! Sorry sweetie, you'll understand when you have your own.

These days, you like to wear this:

Absolutely nothing.

You would rather be naked.

Your favorite t.v. shows are: “Wow Wow Wubzy”, “Blues Clues”, and “Oswald”

You love to: run around in circles in the living while laughing. You LOVE to be outside playing with rocks, sticks and sand tools. You LOVE animals and giggle every time you see them, point to them and say what they are: “gaie” (“doggy”), “elf” (“elephant”), “khhhh” (“kitty”). You LOVE books and dancing to music. You love "Mimi" and "Raju" (family dogs).

You say this a lot: “Dai” (“Daddy”) every time you see him. Other things you say a lot: “Bebe" ("baby" - it started with pix of yourself and now to all babys), “Hi” and now it's "no, no, no" to EVERYthing.

Your favorite foods are: pears, apples and broccoli. You'd prefer green beans to ice cream. Whose kid are you anyway?!

Your favorite characters are Wubzy and Elmo.

Your favorite toy is this:

You have 1001 toys, but you'd rather play with my phone. I guess I would too -

I love you to death, but you do much of this: eat rocks, grab for EVERYthing, need my attention 200% of the time! (it’s okay – you’re suppose to - and most of the time - I love to give it to you.)

You’re a great kid because of this:
you’re extremely loving, affectionate, sweet, intelligent, funny, happy, cuddly, soft…perfect!

I can’t believe your doing this:
know the words for so many things we didn’t even knew you knew! Smart kid! (“Mou” for “Mouth”, “Blue” for “Balloon”...and so many more!).

I LOVE when you: laugh, smile, squeeze your baby or bear really hard, twisting side to side; I loved when you shook your head from side to side really fast while smiling really big and rocking out to Michael Jackson in your grandparents minivan; I love when you eat! I love that you are SO determined to do the most challenging of things for your size and age like run around the park with a ball 1/2 your size, picking it up every time you drop it, still convicted to your mission; picking yourSELF up every time you fall. I love your little snore and how when you’re sleeping you look the same as you did when you were born. I love when you call me “mai” (“mommy”) – finally.

Something I am wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day are these:

Didn't you know that your mother was a rock star?! Girl - you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Something y
ou are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:

Keeping you busy! I'm tryin' kid!

I just copied an excerpt of what I believe to be the most important part:

Posted: 08:19 PM ET

(CNN)—Democrats continue their money race following the release of their March fundraising totals. In the latest installment of CNN=Politics Daily, CNN’s Dan Lothian reveals Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s totals.

Regardless of who Democrats eventually pick to be their nominee, they have made history with a female candidate and an African American candidate. Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider reports on new poll numbers which show whether Americans are ready to make history electing a woman or an African American.

Homework: Online Time Capsule

Alright Bad Mommys. Ready for some more homework?

The idea is to encapsulate your child’s/children’s life at this moment with words, pictures, and if your really ambitious, video.

Following, is a guide by which you can use to collect your data.

(Here comes the overly ambitious part)
THEN, the plan is in 20 years, April 1, 2028, we will all come back to this blog, reopen our time capsules with our children (or e-mail it to them), and write a post describing the event.

I really wish we could do this (Yahoo Digital Time Capsule). Maybe in the next 20 years, I'll find a way to do it!

GUIDE:

Today you are ______ (age).

At this exact moment, you are ______________ (what they are doing).

These days, you like to wear, or I like you to wear (for the mommy with teeny tinys) this:

Your favorite t.v. show(s) or movie is this:

You love to do this:_______(activity (ies) : i.e. climbing on counters, riding your skateboard).

You say this a lot: _______________ (i.e. “mommy mommy mommy”, “screw this!).

Your favorite food these days:__________________(i.e. breast milk, pizza…or even breast milk and pizza for some!)

Your favorite character from a show or movie is this: ________________(i.e. Elmo, or Captain Jack Sparrow).

This is your favorite toy: ______________ (i.e. teething ring, skateboard).

I love you to death, but I really wish you would stop doing this:____________.

You're a great kid because of this:________________.

I'm amazed that you do this:_______________(i.e. talking, wake up before 11:00am)

I love when you do this:_______________.

Something I’m wearing these days that will probably make you laugh some day (or already does):_________________.

Something you are struggling with presently that I wish I could help you with:__________.

This is an article from a magazine or newspaper describing an event that happened today or around this time:

Feel free to do whatever you want to do to remember these moments. This is simply a guide and you can use some of it, all of it, or none of it!:-) It's your time capsule!

HAVE FUN!

Not Always Restless...

These images are to represent how my baby makes me feel...(most of the time - just kidding).

Guesses anyone?

UPDATE: Since mine was confusing cuz I didn't spell anything and Boobah's mom was close anyway...I was trying to represent the word "whole".

Perhaps Not Supremely Amusing at 19 Months

Q: Please tell us about something your child(ren) said that was supremely amusing. Embarrassing is also fun.

A: My daughter's 1st word was "hi" (the exact way I say it - kind of high-pitched/sing-songy)....this is more amusing in person unfortunately. Especially when she says it right after I have said "no" to something or when she knows she has done something "wrong".

Supremely amusing (to us - cuz everything is at this age) and hopefully even so not in person for all of you: her 1st phrase "OH - M- GHA" (Oh My God). She was saying this at 13(? - not sure, cuz being the bad mommy I am, I have yet to record ANYthing) months. If this was her 1st phrase, I think we have many more amusing moments awaiting us.

BTW, she now says "Elmo", "Coo" (for Blues Clues), "Wa Wa" (for Wa Wa Wubzy - cartoon), "Foo" (for food), "Dai" (for Daddy).

....she has yet to say "mommy" or anything resembling it.

Ain't motherhood just grand.

I Can't Do It

Dear Fellow Bad Mommies,

I know this is suppose to be a letter to my daughter. I started one for her Restless Sweet Sixteenth Birthday, and got really sad! She was cuddled up against me, sleeping away and I started thinking of how I wouldn't be able to envelope her with my body like I do and feel like I can protect her from the world like I think I can. I started thinking about her not being a baby anymore and I couldn't stand it.

I do look forward to seeing her grow into a little girl, than an adolescent and even look forward to seeing her blossom into a woman. But for now, I just wish I could bottle her little being up and keep it forever.

So, I'm sorry, but I won't be able to complete the last homework assignment. I'm just not ready!

Best Wishes,
Restless Housewife

Restless Before, Restless After

Before I was a mom…
I thought I was “busy”. HA!

Before I was a mom…
I thought being a mom would be easy. Now, I realize it is anything but.

Before I was a mom…
I thought when I became a mom, I would turn into this all-knowing, mature “woman”. Now I realize I know less than I thought I did before and act more immature than my 18 month old daughter. Boy, do I feel sorry for her -

Before I was a mom…
I had no idea of the value of time. Now, I would do anything to have back, all the time I wasted and took for granted before becoming a mom.

Before I was a mom…
My weight didn’t yo yo and my hair – well actually – it was always a mess. But at least 1/2 of it didn’t fall out!

Before I was a mom…
I thought life was complicated and made it complicated. Now, life IS complicated and I’m trying to make it less complicated.

Before I was a mom…
Crying babies didn’t bother me – I just felt sorry for them. Now, they still don’t bother me, I just feel sorry for the parents.

Before I was a mom…
I thought I couldn’t love anything more than my dogs. Now, I sometimes forget I even HAVE dogs (they’re w/my parents). Poor babies.

Before I was a mom…
I felt like I was missing out if I wasn’t out and about, partying, living in L.A. or New York with some flashy job, in flashy clothes, living a flashy life. Now, I KNOW I was missing out on everything…just not that stuff.

Let Go, Let TV

This is a post from my Restless Blog I thought was a good "bad mommy" entry:

I'm SO tired. It's 8:00 pm Sunday eve. it's been a LONG weekend, and my husband's at work. My daughter needs attention (as most normal kids do); I played with her a bit, tried to draw with her, "read" with her some - but finally kind of gave up. Quite frankly, I just don't have it in me anymore tonight. Because she's merely 18 months, her language is still very foreign to me and I spend most my days pretending to know what she's saying and "pretend" talking with her. Actually, I've done this since she was born. (That may be why she "talks" constantly). It's absolutely THE cutest thing I've ever heard and witnessed, but tonight - I just can't do it. I can't fake not being tired and I can't play with her and her toys she plays with in her own random way. I'm just plain exhausted. That's why daddy is suppose to be home on Sunday evenings: to save mommy from going insane.

So, I'm doing the thing I told myself I would never do BEFORE having my precious daughter: letting go and letting the TV babysit her.

BTW, in my defense, I AM forcing myself to still do the pretend "I'm so excited Kai-lin is on too!" + big fake - I don't want her to feel like she's watching TV alone - smile.

Is it bedtime yet?

Introducing....the Restless Housewife

Hi y'all! This looks so fun!

O.K., so for anyone reading this that doesn't know what I'm doing...this is my official Introduction assigned to me by "The Bad Mommy Blog". I look at it as being initiated into a club. It feels more...mysterious.

1. Post a picture of your kid(s).

This I will have to pass on. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of a picture of my 18 month old daughter floating around in cyberspace. BUT, I would be happy to describe her: SHE'S PERFECT - unlike her mother.

2. Tell us all 3 things we wouldn't know about you.

1. I bartended for 8 years. Drinks anyone?!
2. I quit drinking almost 3 years ago when I got pregnant with my daughter.
3. I was painfully shy as a child and as an adolescent. Boy - am I glad that's over!

3. Tell us some things we wouldn't know about your kid(s).

1. She's a "halfy": half East-Indian (me) and half "White-American".
2. She's fearless...she's not scared of ANYthing. This scares me.
3. She LOVES "good" food. She would prefer green beans over a slice of cake. Is this kid really mine?

4. What quote/saying best describes the way you feel about being a mommy?

I'm horrible at remembering phrases and sayings, but this is something my best friend told me before having my daughter that I think Steve Martin said? I hope it's not too syrupy sweet...here it goes:

"People tell you how much you're going to love your kids, but no one tells you how much you're going to fall in love with them."

It's so true.

5. Who's your Famous Mommy Role Model (haha, like there actually are any good celebrity mommies)

Seriously?

I was going to say Britney, for laughs, but at this point, I just plain feel sorry for her. Which BTW, can someone say "undiagnosed postpartum...gone bad"?

I'd have to say, as annoyingly perfect and smily as this couple is: Jada Pinkett-Smith. I think she wrote a book for her daughter or something. She's pretty cool. Beautiful, strong and has Will wrapped around her little Pinkett finger. Oh, and Faith Hill. She seems like a really really loving, sweet mom.

6. If you could have one wish granted for your kid(s), what would it be?

That she truly loves and feels good about herself, and is able to handle all challenges life hands her with patience, confidence and acceptance.

Oh, and that she'll never leave home. Kidding.
